HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY NIGERIA
56 and counting... yeah! counting our achievements, failures, ups and downs in TECHNOLOGY.
first of all, I must commend my great nation for Her efforts technology wise. well done to ALL Nigerians in technology; whether real/virtual, financial/mental, active/passive, I hail you all. it is not easy but we can do better.
Despite the fact that there are hundreds of technological projects, thousands of technology firms and millions of innovations annually, Nigeria is still lagging behind technologically. there is so much to be done to enhance our growth in this aspect. and that brings us to our counting....
1. Individuals; it begins with you! Nigerians dont seem to have much trust in technology. the average Nigerian won't even use the bank mobile application on his/her smart phone. to make matters worse, most of us just buy gadgets because we can afford them. not because we need them. imagine someone with an iPhone 7 who only makes and receives calls or send whatsapp/ text messages with it..isn't that a huge waste? the worst thing is people are not even willing/ready to learn and improve themselves with all the available ICT provisions. people should try to understand devices they acquire.
2. Government; this should have been number one right?... but I personally chose to put it in second place. as i rightly stated in number 1, "it begins with you". however, the government of our nation deliberately/ignorantly wave off/ deprive its citizens of the right to qaulity/sound tech education. tech education should be primary on the scheme but it is not given any priority at all. most public institutions dont offer computer studies. yet they've gone ahead to make UTME computer based. na magic? I believe technology is basic and should be introduced to people early enough.
3. Institutions; most tech institutions are theoretical. they would give you voluminus books to read and offer few/no practical teachings to students. in the end, when such students graduate, they are only "paper technicians". if and only if technology institutions would offer the best training at affordable prices, Nigerians would have no more issues.
some of this institutions dont even have furnished laboratories. and those that manage to have most probably have outdated or non functional devices... sometimes the teachers are even the ones learning from the students.
4. Corruption; even with all the shortcomings, we still have some really brilliant and innovative Nigerians who are infact tech witches and wizards. but for the fact that they get little or no support, they settle for substandard materials production of gadgets which may not be authentic and could even end up creating hazards and causing harm.
5. Company Policies; this equally affects the growth of technology in our great nation as a lot of people have so much to offer but due to the high cost of running technology companies ,they are discouraged from even venturing into it.
6. Information; most Nigerians neglect information available to them. through blogs/news sites. and this prevents them from knowing the latest technology trends and understanding which ones are useful. as a result, they end up settling for the outdated trends.
In order to overcome all these challenges, I recommend that you stay informed on tech trends by reading http://crosscables.blogspot.com.ng . and contact us on 08088498890, 07066659071 for your latest, best quality high tech devices.
